Bachelor of Arts (BA)

The Programme is designed to cater for the interest of students offering a full four – year BA Degree in Religious and Cultural Studies. The Programme is, however, concerned with the critical study of the African religious and Cultural life in all its diversity. Nevertheless, emphasis is placed on those religious traditions which have the greatest importance in the history of Africa – the various Indigenous religious traditions, Christianity and Islam with their ethical values and demands.

The College started her correspondence with the University in 2002 for the affiliation formalities. In August 2006, the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt granted the interim approval. The first set of students were admitted and commenced academic in August 2006. Then in November 2009, the National Universities Commission granted the approval for the Affiliation.

The Objectives include:

• To develop in the students the ability to understand, analyze and critically interpret the nature of religious reality as well as the mutual interplay of religious features with other elements in the broader social and cultural context.
• To enhance the employment prospect of Religious Studies Graduates in the new millennium. It is necessary that the College’s multi-disciplinary heritage should be promoted even further as our graduates will be better equipped for greater opportunity in society.
• To provide adequate knowledge and skills in ministerial training for men and women irrespective of differences.
• To teach and apply the Christian faith and practice in its comprehensive and integrative   nature for the transformation of the individual and society.
